Al Shannif: League Title Lost for Al Ahli, Al Ittihad Brings Gloom

In a frank and critical assessment, former Saudi football star Mohammed Al Shannif has declared that Al Ahli’s hopes of winning the Saudi Roshn League title for the 2023-2024 season are over. He also described the current situation at Al Ittihad as one that “brings gloom” to its supporters.

Al Shannif stated that the league title has effectively “flown away” from Al Ahli following their recent 1-1 draw with Al Fateh in the 28th round. This result left them in fourth place with 52 points, a significant 12 points behind leaders Al Hilal, who still have two games in hand.

“Al Ahli’s draw means the league title is gone for them,” Al Shannif said bluntly during his analysis. “The focus now should shift entirely to the King’s Cup. That is their only remaining opportunity for a trophy this season.”

Turning to Al Ittihad, the former goalkeeper did not hide his disappointment with the team’s dramatic decline this season. The Tigers, defending champions, are languishing in fifth place after a string of poor results.

“As for Al Ittihad, what is happening there only brings gloom,” Al Shannif commented. “From being champions to their current state, it is a very difficult situation for everyone connected to the club.”

Al Shannif’s remarks highlight the growing frustration among fans of both Jeddah giants. While Al Ahli’s title challenge has faded, Al Ittihad’s campaign has completely unraveled, leaving both clubs to reassess their objectives for the final weeks of the season.
