Walid Al-Faraj Reveals Asian Football Surprise

In an exclusive interview, Saudi sports analyst Walid Al-Faraj has revealed a significant development within Asian football, following the recent conflict involving the Iranian national team.

Al-Faraj confirmed that the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has made a final decision regarding the status of Iran’s matches. The AFC has officially awarded a 3-0 victory to the Islamic Republic of Iran for its unplayed match against Myanmar. This match was originally scheduled as part of the joint qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the 2027 AFC Asian Cup.

The decision comes after Myanmar refused to travel to Iran for the return leg fixture, citing security concerns. The match was set to take place on March 26, 2024, but did not go ahead. Consequently, the AFC Disciplinary and Ethics Committee applied its regulations, granting Iran the win by default.

This result has a direct impact on the Group E standings. With this awarded victory, Iran’s point total rises to 12 from just four matches played. This solidifies their position at the top of the group, putting them in a commanding position to secure qualification for the next stage.

Al-Faraj stated that the AFC’s decision is now final and binding, closing the file on this particular fixture. The focus for all teams in the group now shifts to the remaining qualifying matches.
