Bayern Munich coach Niko Kovač has raised concerns over the fitness of winger Kingsley Coman ahead of their crucial Bundesliga clash, despite the Frenchman’s return to team training.
Coman, who has been sidelined with a muscular injury, took part in the squad’s final session on Friday before the match against Augsburg. His presence on the training pitch was a positive sight for the Bavarian giants.
However, when addressing the media, Kovač struck a cautious note. “Kingsley Coman trained with the team today,” the coach confirmed. “But it is still too early to say whether he will be available for the game against Augsburg. We will have to wait and see how his body reacts tomorrow.”
The 23-year-old’s potential absence would be a significant blow for Bayern as they look to maintain pressure at the top of the table. Coman’s pace and direct running are key components of the team’s attacking play.
Kovač’s comments suggest a late fitness test will determine Coman’s involvement. The coach is clearly unwilling to risk a setback for the talented winger, whose season has been repeatedly disrupted by injury problems.
All eyes will now be on Coman’s condition on Saturday morning as Bayern finalize their preparations for the derby.
