Former Saudi Arabian national team goalkeeper Mohamed Al-Daiea has stated that Al-Hilal must overcome their upcoming fixture against Al-Ittihad if they are to be crowned champions of the 2023-2024 Roshn Saudi League.
Al-Hilal currently sit at the top of the league table with 80 points, holding a commanding 12-point lead over their closest rivals, Al-Nassr, with only five matches remaining in the season.
In a video statement, Al-Daiea emphasized the critical nature of the next match. “The most important match for Al-Hilal to officially secure the league title is the upcoming clash against Al-Ittihad,” he said. “A victory in that derby will effectively seal the championship for them.”
The legendary goalkeeper, who enjoyed a storied career with Al-Shabab and the national team, highlighted the significance of the Riyadh derby. He pointed out that a win for Al-Hilal would mathematically put the title beyond the reach of Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr, regardless of other results.
Al-Hilal’s next match is against Al-Ittihad, scheduled for Friday, May 3, 2024, at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Jeddah. A positive result in this high-profile fixture would bring the club to the brink of a record-extending 19th Saudi league title.
