Allegri Nears Italy Job with Milan's Blessing

Massimiliano Allegri has moved a significant step closer to becoming the next head coach of the Italian national team, with a crucial endorsement coming from his former club, AC Milan.

The search for Luciano Spalletti’s successor is intensifying, and Allegri has emerged as the clear frontrunner. According to reports from Italy, the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) has identified the former Juventus boss as their primary target following his departure from Turin last month.

A major hurdle appears to have been cleared. FIGC president Gabriele Gravina recently held a meeting with AC Milan’s management. The purpose was to secure the club’s official blessing for the move, as Allegri maintains a deep and respected connection with the Rossoneri, where he coached from 2010 to 2014. The discussion was positive, with Milan giving their full and unreserved approval for Allegri to take the national team role.

This green light from Milan is seen as a pivotal moment in the negotiations. The FIGC can now proceed with greater confidence to formal talks with Allegri himself. The plan is for Gravina to meet directly with the coach in the coming days to finalize the contract details.

The federation is working with a clear timeline. They aim to have the new manager officially appointed before the start of the 2024-25 Serie A season, ensuring a smooth transition and ample preparation time for the upcoming UEFA Nations League matches in September.

Allegri’s potential appointment is viewed as a move for stability and experience. His task would be to guide Italy through the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification campaign and build a project for the future, following the team’s disappointing exit from Euro 2024 at the round of 16 stage.
