Al-Faraj explains choosing Jeddah for Saudi Super Cup

Al-Ahli captain Salman Al-Faraj has provided a clear explanation for the decision to host the 2024 Saudi Super Cup in Jeddah, directly addressing the recent controversy surrounding the venue selection.

The tournament, featuring Al-Hilal, Al-Nassr, Al-Ahli, and Al-Ittihad, will be held at the “Abdullah Al-Faisal” Stadium in Jeddah on April 8, 11, and 15, 2024. This announcement sparked debate among fans, particularly those of Riyadh-based clubs Al-Hilal and Al-Nassr, who questioned why the event was not held in the capital.

In an exclusive statement, Al-Faraj clarified the reasoning. “The Saudi Super Cup will be held in Jeddah because the stadiums in Riyadh are not available during that period,” the Saudi international midfielder stated. He emphasized that the decision was purely logistical, aimed at ensuring the smooth execution of the competition.

“The goal is to organize the tournament in the best possible way and to avoid any clashes with other events already scheduled in Riyadh,” Al-Faraj added, putting to rest any speculation about preferential treatment.

The tournament format will see Al-Hilal face Al-Ittihad on April 8, followed by Al-Nassr taking on Al-Ahli on April 11. The two winners will then meet in the final on April 15, with all matches taking place at the same Jeddah venue.
