Bayern Munich are heading into a major Champions League showdown with Paris Saint-Germain in serious trouble, as five key players have been ruled out of the fixture.
Vincent Kompany will be without a significant chunk of his squad for the crucial European tie, with the absentees spanning both defence and attack. The confirmed list of missing players includes defenders Dayot Upamecano and Alphonso Davies, midfielders Joao Palhinha and Aleksandar Pavlovic, and forward Serge Gnabry.
The timing could not be worse for the Bavarians. Upamecano has been a pillar at the back this season, while Davies provides essential width and pace on the left flank. In midfield, the absence of both Palhinha and Pavlovic leaves Kompany with limited options in the engine room. Gnabry’s absence further reduces the attacking depth available for the trip to Paris.
Bayern travel to the Parc des Princes on Tuesday, 26 November 2024, knowing that a positive result is vital to keep their Champions League campaign on track. PSG, meanwhile, will be looking to exploit the gaps in the visitors’ lineup.
Kompany now faces a real test of his squad management. With such a depleted roster, the Belgian coach will have to rely on fringe players and perhaps even call upon youth team talents to fill the void. The match is scheduled to kick off at 22:00 Mecca time.
The injury crisis has cast a shadow over what was already expected to be a difficult away fixture. Bayern will need to dig deep if they are to leave Paris with anything to show for their efforts.
