Saudi Arabia not abandoning Newcastle, Howe confirms

Saudi Arabia is not turning its back on Newcastle United. That is the clear message from manager Eddie Howe, who has moved to end speculation about the club’s ownership future.

Speaking ahead of the upcoming Premier League fixtures, Howe directly addressed recent rumours suggesting the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund (PIF) might reduce its commitment to the Magpies. The head coach made it plain that such talk is wide of the mark.

“There is no truth in the suggestion that Saudi Arabia is stepping away from Newcastle,” Howe stated. “Our relationship with the owners remains strong and their vision for the club has not changed. They are fully behind what we are building here.”

The 46-year-old manager acknowledged that outside noise is inevitable in modern football, but insisted the internal reality is very different. He pointed to ongoing investment in the squad and infrastructure as proof of the owners’ long-term plan.

“From my conversations, there is absolute clarity. The commitment is there. We are moving forward together,” Howe added.

Newcastle’s Saudi-backed ownership group, led by PIF, completed its takeover of the club in October 2021. Since then, the club has risen up the Premier League table and returned to Champions League football. Recent weeks, however, had seen unconfirmed reports claiming the sovereign wealth fund was reconsidering its position.

Howe’s comments are the strongest public denial yet. He made clear that the board and the coaching staff remain aligned on the club’s direction, with no change in strategy or ambition.

“We have a clear plan for the January window and beyond,” Howe confirmed. “The support we have from the top gives us confidence to keep pushing forward.”

The manager’s words will reassure supporters who had grown uneasy amid the rumours. For now, Newcastle’s Saudi connection appears as solid as ever.
