Hossam Hassan could face an early end to his Africa Cup of Nations journey because of CAF regulations, after the events that surrounded Egypt’s final group match.
Egypt drew 2-2 with Cape Verde in the Africa Cup of Nations group stage, a result that secured qualification but also brought disciplinary concerns for the head coach.
During the game, Hassan was shown a yellow card by the referee, adding to earlier cautions and placing him under the threat of a suspension, in line with CAF’s disciplinary rules.
CAF regulations state that an individual who accumulates two yellow cards in the competition receives a one-match ban, with the punishment applied in the next match of the tournament.
That situation means Hassan risks missing Egypt’s next AFCON fixture if his cautions reach the limit under the competition’s rules, a development that could hit the national team at a key moment in the knockout rounds.
With Egypt now through, attention will turn to CAF’s official disciplinary decisions and whether the head coach will be available on the touchline for the next stage.
