Hakimi joins Neybat on Morocco African and global throne

Achraf Hakimi has moved ahead of Romain Saiss to join Noureddine Neybat at the top of Morocco’s most-capped players list, adding another landmark to his international career.

The Paris Saint-Germain full-back reached 115 appearances for the national team, matching Neybat’s long-standing record and becoming the joint leader for caps in Morocco’s history at both African and global level.

Hakimi achieved the figure after taking part in Morocco’s latest international outing, a milestone that underlines his growing status as one of the country’s key figures in recent years.

By doing so, he also overtook captain Romain Saiss, who had been ahead of him in the rankings, as Hakimi continues to climb the all-time list in a short space of time.

Neybat had held the record for years after a career that made him one of Morocco’s best-known defenders, and Hakimi’s rise to the same total reflects how quickly he has built his own legacy with the national side.

Hakimi’s new tally places him at the summit of Moroccan international football, sharing the throne with Neybat and writing another chapter in his career in red and green.
