Egypt head coach Rogerio Micale said he was surprised by the commotion that followed his side’s match in Morocco, insisting he only wanted “peace and love” after the final whistle.
The Egypt U23 team played Morocco in an international fixture. When the game ended, tensions rose and an incident broke out that quickly became a talking point. Images of the scenes spread fast and sparked plenty of reaction.
Micale made it clear he did not understand how the situation escalated. “Peace and love,” he said, adding that his focus was on football and not on conflict after the match.
The Egyptian coach stressed that his players and staff were there to compete and then move on in a respectful way. He also pointed to the emotions that can come with games like this, but repeated that he did not expect what happened at the end.
In his response, Micale tried to calm the discussion around the match and underlined that everyone should keep respect in mind, regardless of the result.
