Chelsea head coach Liam Rosenior has said he wants to take inspiration from Sir Alex Ferguson’s “brave” approach at Manchester United, as he looks to build around a young Blues squad.
Rosenior, newly appointed at Stamford Bridge, pointed to the famous United side led by Ferguson and driven by the Class of ’92 as the kind of model he wants to follow, praising the courage it took to put faith in youth at the highest level.
“I always go back to Sir Alex Ferguson and that Man United team he produced,” Rosenior said. “It takes bravery to do that.”
The Chelsea coach believes strong development, clear standards and a fearless attitude can help young players handle the pressure that comes with playing for a club with Chelsea’s expectations.
Rosenior’s comments come with the club continuing to put young talent at the centre of its long-term plans, and the head coach insisting that giving opportunities is only part of the job. He wants those players to be ready to take them.
Ferguson’s willingness to trust graduates from his academy, and allow them time to grow while demanding trophies, remains one of the most celebrated periods in English football. Rosenior is hoping Chelsea can create something similar with their current group.
The new boss said his focus is on building a team that is not only exciting but also able to compete, with youth backed by structure and belief.
