Former Liverpool Star Eyes Europe Return: ‘Very Excited’

Fabinho and Darwin Núñez celebrate a goal for Liverpool, wearing their iconic red kits, amidst a backdrop of jubilant teammates.

A former Liverpool player is pushing for a move back to Europe and says he is eager to make it happen.

Dejan Lovren, now with PAOK in Greece, has made it clear he wants another spell in one of Europe’s major leagues. The 35-year-old, who spent six seasons at Anfield and won the Champions League and Premier League under Jürgen Klopp, believes he still has plenty to offer at a high level.

Speaking about his next step, Lovren admitted he is actively looking at options and described the idea of returning to a bigger European stage as something that motivates him. “I’m very excited,” he said, adding that he feels physically in good shape and mentally ready for a new challenge.

Lovren left Liverpool in 2020, joining Zenit Saint Petersburg before moving on to Lyon and then PAOK. Despite his age, he has continued to play regularly and remains a key figure in defence, using his experience and leadership to organize those around him.

While he did not name clubs or confirm formal talks, his comments are likely to fuel fresh transfer speculation. With many teams looking for short-term experience at the back—especially sides competing in Europe—Lovren’s availability could appeal to clubs seeking depth without a long commitment.

The Croatian also stressed that his next move would be about the right fit rather than simply chasing a final contract. He hinted that family considerations and the chance to compete for trophies would play a role in his decision.

For now, Lovren remains under contract at PAOK, but his desire is clear. Whether an offer arrives before the next transfer window closes, or later in the year, the former Reds defender is openly aiming for one more run in Europe’s top competitions.
