Manchester United are growing increasingly confident of landing Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Carlos Baleba this summer, with a deal that could cost around £100 million.

United have tracked Baleba closely and believe the timing is right to push ahead, even though Brighton remain in a strong position and are under no pressure to sell. The 20-year-old has quickly become one of the standout young midfielders in the Premier League and is viewed at Old Trafford as a long-term option to strengthen the engine room.

Brighton’s stance is expected to make any deal difficult, with the club likely to demand a huge fee if they are to consider letting him go. United, however, are understood to be increasingly confident they can find a way to get an agreement done during the summer window.

Baleba joined Brighton from Lille in 2023 and has continued to rise in reputation with his energy, strength and ability to drive through midfield. United’s interest is based on his form and potential, but the price tag being discussed underlines how highly Brighton rate him.

A move is not yet agreed, but the key revelation is that United’s belief in completing the deal is growing, despite the possibility that Brighton could hold out for a package close to £100m.
