Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye has rejected claims that Morocco were behind an alleged “poisoning” incident involving the Senegal squad during the AFCON final, calling what was said at the time a distortion of the facts.

The controversy dates back to the build-up to the final, when talk spread about a supposed poisoning that had affected Senegal’s players. The accusations quickly circulated and sparked criticism, with Morocco’s name brought into the debate despite the lack of confirmed evidence.

In comments that have resurfaced, Gueye insisted there was no truth to the story and made it clear that Morocco should not have been linked to it. The Senegal international said the episode was turned into a “lie” and that the narrative presented publicly did not match reality.

Gueye also took aim at his former teammate Ismail Jakobs, accusing him of helping to fuel the claims and “falsify” what happened around the final. According to Gueye, the version that was shared created unnecessary tension and unfairly targeted Morocco.

The midfielder’s stance effectively clears Morocco of the allegation, as he stressed that the issue was never based on confirmed facts and should not have been used to explain events around the decisive match.
