Manchester United have been linked with a possible future return for Mason Greenwood after a report claimed there have been “discussions” about the forward’s situation.

Greenwood left Old Trafford in the summer to join Marseille and has been rebuilding his career in Ligue 1 after his long absence from football. United sold the attacker but are understood to have included a buy-back option in the deal, leaving open the possibility of bringing him back at a later date.

The same report says those clauses have now become a talking point, with “discussions” taking place over what Greenwood’s next steps could look like if his progress in France continues. No final decision has been made and there has been no official confirmation from either club.

United had previously sanctioned Greenwood’s departure after he spent last season on loan at Getafe, where he returned to regular football. He then completed a permanent move to Marseille, with the Premier League side retaining the ability to re-sign him through the agreed terms.

For now, Greenwood remains a Marseille player, but the claim that talks have been held will keep the spotlight on the buy-back option as United weigh their longer-term plans.
