Chelsea were inspired by dazzling performances from Estevao Willian and Joao Pedro as they beat Crystal Palace, with Liam Rosenior’s side moving a step closer to the Champions League places and, in the process, leapfrogging Liverpool in the top-four race.
From the opening stages, Chelsea looked sharper and more direct, with Estevao Willian repeatedly carrying the ball into dangerous areas and forcing Palace to defend deep. The visitors struggled to settle as Chelsea’s attackers swapped positions and asked constant questions down both flanks.
The breakthrough arrived with Joao Pedro at the heart of it, as he produced the decisive quality in the final third to put Chelsea in control. Palace tried to respond, but Chelsea’s shape held firm and the home side continued to look the more likely to add to their lead before the break.
After half-time, Crystal Palace pushed higher up the pitch and enjoyed more possession, yet they could not turn that into clear chances. Chelsea remained dangerous on the counter, with Estevao continuing to stand out thanks to his pace, close control and end product.
Joao Pedro then made sure the Eagles’ wings were fully clipped, delivering again at a key moment to keep Chelsea in charge. Palace’s attempts to get back into the contest were met with calm defending and better game management as Chelsea saw the result out.
The win keeps Rosenior’s team firmly in the hunt and boosts their top-four ambitions, with Estevao Willian and Joao Pedro the headline acts on a night Chelsea looked full of confidence and intent.
