Liam Rosenior has explained why Cole Palmer did not travel with Chelsea for their trip to Crystal Palace, while also addressing the recent transfer speculation surrounding the England international.
Palmer was a notable absentee from Chelsea’s matchday squad at Selhurst Park, leading to fresh talk over his situation after reports described the forward as “homesick”. The 22-year-old has been one of Chelsea’s key players and his absence immediately raised questions.
Rosenior, speaking about Palmer’s non-involvement, confirmed the decision was down to a fitness issue and insisted there was no bigger story behind it. He made it clear the club were managing the player carefully and that the priority was getting him back to full health rather than taking any risks.
Rosenior also moved to shut down the transfer noise, stressing that Palmer remains an important part of Chelsea’s plans. He said the club were not entertaining the rumours and that the focus was on Palmer returning and continuing to contribute.
Chelsea will now hope Palmer is available again soon, with Rosenior underlining that there is no concern about the player’s commitment despite the continued outside interest and headlines.
