Nigeria legend says Senegal win saved Morocco and AFCON credibility

Senegalese players celebrate winning the African Cup of Nations, holding the trophy aloft, with golden confetti raining down around them.

A Nigerian football legend believes Senegal’s triumph at the Africa Cup of Nations helped protect the credibility of both Morocco and the tournament itself.

He said Senegal’s title win confirmed that the competition was decided on the pitch, adding that it also preserved Morocco’s standing after the Atlas Lions impressed during the tournament.

In his view, Senegal’s success gave the AFCON a strong champion and avoided any doubts about the level of the event, while also keeping Morocco’s reputation intact following their performances.

The former Nigeria star stressed that Senegal deserved to be crowned champions, and that their victory ultimately reflected well on the tournament as a whole.
