Brad Friedel believes a move to MLS would be a “terrible idea” for Christian Pulisic, insisting the USMNT star should be staying in Europe while he is in his prime.
The former United States goalkeeper also pointed to Pulisic’s situation at AC Milan, claiming the Serie A club need to “get their act together” when it comes to the winger’s contract future.
Friedel said Pulisic has “so much power” in any negotiations because of what he brings on and off the pitch, and argued that influence should be used in the right environment rather than as part of an early switch back to the United States.
Pulisic, 26, has been a key figure since joining Milan from Chelsea, and Friedel’s comments underline the belief that the attacker’s best football is still to be played at the highest level in Europe.
Friedel stressed that MLS remains an option later in Pulisic’s career, but warned that stepping away from the elite standard too soon would not help him or the national team.
His message was clear: if Milan want to keep a player of Pulisic’s level, they should move decisively and “get their act together” on a contract, because the American has the standing to shape what happens next.
