In his first public reaction following the CAF sanctions, Aliou Cissé’s assistant and Senegal international, Thiaw, thanked the people of Senegal for the support he has received in recent days, while also asking them to stop a fan-led initiative launched in his name.
Thiaw addressed Senegalese supporters directly, expressing his appreciation for their solidarity after the disciplinary measures announced by the Confederation of African Football (CAF). He said the messages and backing from across the country meant a lot to him at a difficult moment.
At the same time, Thiaw urged fans to end the initiative that was started as a response to the CAF decision, insisting he does not want any action taken on his behalf to create more tension or distract from the national team’s focus.
The comments come as Senegal continues to deal with the aftermath of CAF’s sanctions, with Thiaw choosing a calm tone, prioritising unity and asking supporters to stand behind the team without escalating the situation.
