Senegal head coach Aliou Cissé and Morocco defender Achraf Hakimi have been handed bans by the Confederation of African Football following chaotic scenes at the end of the Africa Cup of Nations final.
CAF also issued heavy fines in the aftermath of the match, with penalties totalling more than £1 million shared between AFCON winners Senegal and Morocco.
Senegal lifted the trophy after beating Morocco in the final, but the celebrations and post-match moments were overshadowed by disorder that led to disciplinary action.
In a statement confirming the decisions, CAF set out a series of punishments, including a ban for Cissé and a suspension for Paris Saint-Germain full-back Hakimi. The governing body also confirmed financial sanctions for both federations, with the combined total exceeding seven figures in pounds.
The ruling follows incidents after the final whistle, with CAF citing breaches of its regulations as it moved to clamp down on the behaviour that marred the showpiece occasion.
Senegal’s triumph remains on record, but the fallout means both teams will now feel the impact away from the pitch, while Cissé and Hakimi will serve their respective bans under CAF’s disciplinary framework.
