Emi Martinez arrogance called out by international rival

Emiliano Martínez, in Argentina's green goalkeeper kit, shouts fiercely during a match, showcasing intense determination and passion.

Emiliano Martinez has been criticised by an international rival, who admitted he “doesn’t like the way he is” despite describing the Aston Villa goalkeeper as a “phenomenal” talent.

The World Cup winner has built a reputation as one of the game’s best shot-stoppers since helping Argentina lift the trophy in 2022, while also starring for Villa in the Premier League. But his personality and on-pitch behaviour continue to divide opinion away from Argentina.

Speaking about Martinez, the rival made it clear that he respects the keeper’s ability but not his approach, labelling the 31-year-old’s attitude as “arrogance” and insisting there are things about his conduct that he does not enjoy.

Even so, the same opponent stopped short of questioning Martinez’s quality, repeating that the Argentine is “phenomenal” and acknowledging the impact he has had at the highest level for both club and country.

Martinez remains Villa’s first-choice goalkeeper and a key figure for Argentina, where he continues to be trusted in major tournaments following his decisive role in their World Cup triumph.
