Oleksandr Zinchenko’s Ajax spell has been hit by an early setback after he was forced off injured just two minutes into his home debut.

The Ukraine international had only just begun his first appearance at the Johan Cruyff Arena when he went down and signalled that he could not continue, leaving Ajax’s medical staff no choice but to withdraw him almost immediately.

Zinchenko had been handed the chance to make his home bow in front of the Ajax supporters, but his night ended before it had properly started as he limped away, with the seriousness of the problem quickly raising concern.

Ajax have not yet confirmed how long Zinchenko will be sidelined, but the nature of the injury and the speed of his exit has put his short stint in Amsterdam under fresh doubt.

It has also been revealed that the injury came during his first home appearance for the club, making the timing of the setback even more damaging for both player and team as they wait for a clearer medical update.
