Morocco’s U20 national team secured the North African Football Union (UNAF) championship title on Tuesday evening after a hard-fought 1-1 draw with Tunisia in the final round. The match, held at the Municipal Stadium in Berkane, saw the young Atlas Lions finish the tournament undefeated to claim the trophy.
The hosts took the lead in the 18th minute through a penalty converted by Ayman Ennair. The Moroccan side managed their advantage well, heading into halftime with a 1-0 lead.
Tunisia pushed for an equalizer in the second half and found it in the 70th minute courtesy of Mohamed Dhaoui. Despite the leveled score, the single point was enough for Morocco to be crowned champions of the three-team tournament.
The Moroccan squad had opened their campaign with a convincing 3-0 victory over Algeria last Saturday, setting the stage for their final triumph. The championship win marks a significant achievement for the new generation of Moroccan footballers, providing crucial experience ahead of future continental and international challenges.
In a related development, it has been revealed that the Moroccan Football Federation has decided to appoint former national team star Marouane Chamakh as the new head coach of the U20 side. The federation is expected to make an official announcement regarding Chamakh’s appointment in the coming days.
