Zamalek delivered a powerful statement in the Egyptian Premier League on Monday night, crushing Al Masry 4-0 at Cairo International Stadium to solidify their position at the top of the table.
The match began with Al Masry showing surprising ambition, putting the hosts under early pressure. Their efforts were rewarded in the 23rd minute when a defensive lapse allowed Amr El Saadawy to put the ball into the net, giving the Port Said club a shock lead.
Zamalek’s response was swift and decisive. Just four minutes later, in the 27th minute, striker Samson Akinyoola rose highest to meet a cross and head home the equalizer, settling the nerves of the home crowd. The first half ended with the score level at 1-1, but the momentum had firmly shifted.
The second half was a completely different story, dominated entirely by the White Knights. The floodgates opened in the 58th minute when Nasser Maher fired a powerful shot from outside the box that flew into the corner of the net, putting Zamalek ahead for the first time.
The third goal arrived just seven minutes later. In the 65th minute, a clever pass from Ahmed “Zizo” Sayed found Seifeddine Jaziri, who made no mistake from close range. The Tunisian striker wasn’t finished, completing his brace and sealing the rout in the 73rd minute with another clinical finish, making it 4-1.
The match took a further turn in the 83rd minute when Al Masry’s defender, Karim El Eraki, received a straight red card for a dangerous foul, reducing his side to ten men for the final minutes.
With this emphatic victory, Zamalek extends their lead at the summit of the Egyptian Premier League standings. The win is a significant boost as they continue their pursuit of the domestic title.
