Cancelo announced the loss through his official Instagram account, posting a message that reflected the depth of his sadness.
“Today I didn’t just lose my mother… I lost the woman who always loved me without limits, who believed in me even when I doubted myself,” he wrote.
The Portuguese full-back added: “She was my refuge, my strength and my greatest supporter. I don’t know how to say goodbye, because a mother never truly leaves… she lives inside us, in every step we take.”
