Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has been linked with a surprise move to Celtic, with the former Arsenal midfielder said to be considering his options after leaving Besiktas.
The 30-year-old only joined the Turkish side last year but is now available as a free agent, and a report has suggested the Scottish champions are among the clubs keeping an eye on his situation.
It has been revealed that Oxlade-Chamberlain is assessing possible next steps in his career, with Celtic named as a potential destination as they look to strengthen Brendan Rodgers’ squad ahead of another campaign that includes European football.
Oxlade-Chamberlain came through at Southampton before making his name at Arsenal, where he spent six seasons and won three FA Cups. He later moved to Liverpool, adding a Premier League title, a Champions League medal and other major honours during his time at Anfield.
His career has also included spells disrupted by injury, but the England international has continued to attract interest thanks to his experience at the top level.
While the Celtic links gather pace, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has previously been asked about the midfielder and what he offered during his time in north London. Arteta spoke warmly of Oxlade-Chamberlain’s qualities and character, describing him as a “really important” figure and praising the impact he had around the club.
For now, no deal has been confirmed, but the possibility of Oxlade-Chamberlain heading to Glasgow would represent one of the more unexpected moves of the summer.
