Arbeloa: Real Madrid Did Not Lose La Liga

Real Madrid’s assistant coach, Álvaro Arbeloa, has insisted that the club did not “lose” La Liga this season, but rather that their rivals were simply better over the course of the campaign.

Speaking to the media, Arbeloa reflected on the 2023-2024 season, which saw Real Madrid crowned champions of Europe but finish second in the domestic league to FC Barcelona. “I don’t feel that we lost La Liga,” Arbeloa stated. “The team that was better over the 38 matches won it. We congratulate Barcelona, the champion, but we also congratulate ourselves for the season we’ve had.”

The former Real Madrid defender highlighted the team’s significant achievements, most notably their record-extending 15th UEFA Champions League title. “We have had a spectacular season. Winning La Decimoquinta is something historic,” he said, emphasizing the positive mood within the squad.

Looking ahead, Arbeloa expressed confidence in the team’s future, particularly with the impending arrival of global superstar Kylian Mbappé. “We are building a very powerful team for the coming years. The arrival of a player like Mbappé is a huge boost for any club,” he confirmed. “We are all very excited about the present and the future of Real Madrid.”

Arbeloa also addressed the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup, to be hosted across the USA, Canada, and Mexico, noting the positive impact such a major tournament in North America could have on the sport’s growth globally.

In closing, the assistant coach reinforced the winning mentality at the club. “At Real Madrid, you live to compete and win every title. Next season, we will go for all of them again,” Arbeloa affirmed.
