Former Wrexham goalkeeper Ben Foster has hailed the “ridiculous” impact Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have had at the club as the Hollywood owners marked another anniversary since their takeover.
Foster, who came out of retirement to join Wrexham during the 2022-23 season, believes what Reynolds and McElhenney have helped build in north Wales is something football is unlikely to see repeated. “Will never be done again,” he said, reflecting on the scale of the change since the pair arrived.
Wrexham were a National League side when Reynolds and McElhenney completed their takeover in 2021, and the club’s rise since then has been rapid both on and off the pitch. Their ownership has brought global attention, fresh investment and a renewed belief around the Racecourse Ground.
Foster pointed to how the owners have transformed the environment and raised standards across the club, from matchdays to the profile Wrexham now carry worldwide. He described their influence as “ridiculous”, crediting them for helping drive the momentum that has carried Wrexham back into the Football League.
The former Premier League and England goalkeeper also highlighted how the story has connected with people far beyond the usual fanbase, with Wrexham becoming one of the most talked-about clubs in the world during their climb.
Reynolds and McElhenney have repeatedly spoken about wanting to deliver success for the town and its supporters, and Foster’s comments come as the club continues to enjoy the benefits of their high-profile backing.
