A Benin international has moved to clear up the controversy surrounding claims that his country was offered $300,000 to influence a result against Egypt.
The player said the story circulating in recent days is not true, stressing that there was no offer of $300,000 made to him or to the Benin squad in relation to any match involving Egypt.
He added that the figures being repeated online have been taken out of context, insisting that neither he nor his teammates received any approach that could be linked to match-fixing or an attempt to affect the outcome.
The Benin player also underlined that the team’s focus has always been on delivering on the pitch, and that such rumours only create unnecessary noise around the national side.
His comments come as the claim continued to spread widely, with many fans questioning its accuracy. The player’s statement now confirms the key point: the alleged $300,000 offer against Egypt did not happen.
