Davide Ancelotti applied for Strasbourg job before ONeil

Davide Ancelotti, the son of Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti, applied for the Strasbourg head coach job before the Ligue 1 club turned to Gary O’Neil.

Strasbourg were searching for a new boss after Liam Rosenior left his role and moved to Chelsea. During that process, Davide Ancelotti put himself forward for the position.

However, Strasbourg did not appoint the 34-year-old. The club, who are part of the BlueCo ownership group, instead named former Wolves and Bournemouth manager O’Neil as their new head coach.

Davide Ancelotti has built his coaching career as an assistant, working alongside his father at a number of clubs and with Real Madrid. His application for the Strasbourg post underlines his desire to step into a senior role in his own right.

O’Neil now takes charge at Strasbourg with the task of leading the club into the new season after a change on the touchline.
