Algerian commentator Hafid Deradji admitted that Nigeria deserved to go through after Algeria’s exit, while trying to ease the disappointment felt by supporters.
Deradji wrote in a message that drew wide attention after the match: “We thank God that our boys came out safe and sound.” He added that Algeria’s elimination was painful, but stressed that the team must now look forward.
In the same message, Deradji openly recognised Nigeria’s superiority on the night, saying the opponents were more deserving of the result and the qualification. He pointed to the small details that decided the contest and the missed opportunities that cost Algeria.
The commentator also called for calm reactions, reminding fans that elimination is part of football and that the national team needs support as it prepares for what comes next, rather than turning the moment into blame and division.
Deradji’s words came immediately after the final whistle, at a time when disappointment was high across Algerian fans, with Nigeria booking their place at Algeria’s expense.
