Egyptian FA Suspends Al Ahly's El Shenawy for 4 Matches

Al Ahly and Egypt’s number one goalkeeper, Mohamed El Shenawy, has been handed a significant four-match suspension by the Egyptian Football Association’s Club Association committee.

The decision comes as a direct result of the red card he received during Al Ahly’s recent Egyptian Premier League match against Ceramica Cleopatra on 21 April 2024. El Shenawy was sent off in the 87th minute of the game for verbally abusing the match referee following the award of a penalty to the opposing team.

The committee’s disciplinary regulations stipulate a four-match ban for such an offense. Consequently, El Shenawy will miss Al Ahly’s next four domestic league fixtures. This suspension is a major blow for the Red Devils as they continue their pursuit of the league title.

In an official statement, the Club Association confirmed the ruling, stating, “The committee decided to suspend Mohamed El Shenawy, the player of Al Ahly club, for four matches.” The statement cited “the violation committed by the player” as the basis for the punishment.

This disciplinary action sidelines a key player at a crucial stage of the season and serves as a firm reminder of the association’s stance on referee respect.
