Former CAF disciplinary committee chairman Ousmane Kane has sharply criticised the sanctions handed down after the Africa Cup of Nations final, calling the decisions “betrayal”.
Kane did not hide his anger at how the case was handled and said the punishments do not match what happened around the final, arguing that key incidents were not judged in a consistent way.
He also revealed that the current approach inside the CAF disciplinary bodies has changed from the standards that were applied during his time, insisting that decisions should be based strictly on the regulations and on clear evidence from match reports and official documentation.
The ex-official believes the credibility of CAF’s disciplinary process is at stake if such rulings continue, and he urged the organisation to restore trust by applying the rules evenly and avoiding decisions that, in his words, leave people feeling let down.
