Gabon have backtracked on their decision to dismiss Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, after fears the country could face sanctions from FIFA.
The Gabonese Football Federation had moved to terminate Aubameyang’s role with the national team, in a decision that quickly sparked debate inside and outside the country.
However, the federation later stepped away from the move, with concerns growing that FIFA could step in if it viewed the situation as breaking regulations.
The development means Aubameyang’s status with Gabon is no longer treated as a closed matter, as officials look to avoid any measure that could expose the national team to punishment.
The report revealed that the main reason behind the reversal was the fear of FIFA sanctions, with Gabon keen to prevent any consequences that could affect their participation in international competitions.
