Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs has advised his former club to prioritize signing a new central midfielder this summer, highlighting a key area he believes needs strengthening.
Speaking in an interview, Giggs pointed to the team’s recent performances as evidence of a gap in the middle of the park. “The team needs a controlling midfielder, someone who can dictate the tempo of the game,” Giggs stated. He emphasized that acquiring such a player should be a top priority for the club in the upcoming transfer window.
The Welshman’s comments come amid ongoing speculation about United’s transfer targets. While not naming any specific players, Giggs’ advice aligns with widespread analysis of the squad’s needs following a challenging season.
Giggs, who made a club-record 963 appearances for United, understands the demands of playing at Old Trafford. He believes adding a composed, authoritative presence in central midfield would provide greater balance and control, allowing the team’s attacking talents more freedom to express themselves.
The club’s hierarchy, including manager Erik ten Hag, is currently planning its strategy for the summer market. Giggs’ public recommendation adds a significant voice to the debate surrounding the club’s most pressing requirement ahead of the new campaign.
