Hossam Hassan: Football Doesn’t Recognize History and Aspires to Follow Gohary’s Path

Egyptian coach gestures passionately on the sidelines as a player from Mali, in a yellow kit with green accents, walks past during a match.

Egypt head coach Hossam Hassan said football “doesn’t recognize history” as he spoke about the challenge of leading the national team, stressing his wish to follow the path of the late Mahmoud El-Gohary.

Hassan underlined that past achievements do not win matches, saying the national team must focus on what happens on the pitch and on building a strong group capable of competing at the highest level.

He pointed to El-Gohary’s legacy with Egypt and explained that his ambition is to walk in the same direction, by creating a clear identity and stable system that can produce results over time.

Hassan also asked for support and patience, noting that the work requires commitment from everyone involved, and that the national team’s objectives can only be reached through effort and discipline.
