Koulibaly plays down threat ahead of Egypt match

Senegal captain celebrates with a raised hand, wearing a white kit with green and yellow patterns, amidst a rainy backdrop.

Senegal captain Kalidou Koulibaly said his team will not be distracted by any talk surrounding their upcoming clash with Egypt, stressing that the players are focused only on what happens on the pitch.

Speaking ahead of the match, Koulibaly played down the idea that there is a “threat” hanging over the meeting, insisting Senegal have prepared in the usual way and will approach the game with the same calm mindset.

“We won’t be busy with this threat,” Koulibaly said, making it clear that his squad is not interested in outside noise or messages aimed at raising pressure before kick-off.

The centre-back added that matches between Senegal and Egypt are always intense, but he believes the key will be discipline, concentration and sticking to the game plan from the first minute to the last.

Koulibaly also underlined that Senegal respect Egypt, but will not change their approach because of the opponent’s name or history. He pointed out that the team’s priority is to deliver a strong performance and keep full focus on their own duties.

Senegal are set to face Egypt in a highly anticipated contest, with Koulibaly insisting the only response will come through hard work and commitment on the field, not through reacting to pre-match talk.
