Lamine Yamal's father condemns racism after abuse

Mounir Nasraoui, the father of Barcelona and Spain star Lamine Yamal, has issued a powerful call for unity following racist abuse directed at his son during a match in Barcelona.

The incident occurred during Spain’s 3-2 friendly victory over Brazil at the Olympic Stadium (Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys) on Tuesday, March 26th. A section of the crowd was heard making monkey chants whenever the 16-year-old winger touched the ball.

In a social media post responding to the abuse, Mounir Nasraoui shared a video of his son playing and wrote a clear message of solidarity. “Long live Muslims, Christians, and Jews,” he stated, emphasizing that racism has no place in football or society.

The match itself was a dramatic encounter. Spain took a 2-0 lead with goals from Dani Olmo and a penalty from Rodri. Brazil fought back to level the score in the second half through Rodrygo and a late equalizer from Endrick. However, a stoppage-time penalty, converted again by Rodri, secured the win for the Spanish side.

Lamine Yamal started the match and played 71 minutes before being substituted. His father’s statement highlights the ongoing challenge of racism in stadiums, even as the young player continues to shine on the international stage.
