Liverpool have been warned they could “have real problems” in the transfer market after missing out on Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi.
The new Premier League season is around the corner and Arne Slot is preparing for his first campaign in charge at Anfield, but concerns have been raised about Liverpool’s options at the back. Former Reds captain Jamie Carragher believes the club cannot afford to stand still while rivals strengthen.
Speaking about Liverpool’s situation, Carragher said: “They are going to have real problems.”
The warning comes after Liverpool failed to land Guehi, with the England centre-back staying at Crystal Palace. Carragher feels Liverpool’s current defensive group needs extra help, particularly with the uncertainty that can come with a new manager and the demands of a long season across multiple competitions.
He also pointed to the wider issue Liverpool face in the market this summer: waiting too long or missing key targets could leave Slot short in areas that need depth and quality, especially in defence. Carragher’s message was clear that Liverpool must act decisively if they want to keep pace at the top end of the Premier League.
Liverpool are now expected to look at alternative options, with Slot’s first weeks in charge taking place under growing scrutiny as the club shapes its squad for the new campaign.
