Liverpool great Jamie Carragher has criticised Mohamed Salah after the forward suggested he still has to “prove his worth” at Anfield, with the Egyptian’s future again being linked to a move to Saudi Arabia.
Salah, who is in the final year of his Liverpool contract, recently spoke about feeling he had to keep earning his place and that he had “not proven” enough, despite his goals and trophies since joining from Roma in 2017.
Carragher was not impressed by the comments and said the focus at a club like Liverpool must always be on winning and competing, not on personal recognition.
“You have to fight,” Carragher said, as he questioned why a player with Salah’s record would frame the situation in that way. He added that Liverpool players are judged on what they deliver for the team, and that Salah has long been a key figure in the club’s success.
With Salah’s contract running down and Saudi Pro League clubs still interested, the possibility of a move remains a talking point. The report also reveals that a Saudi transfer is being viewed as the “best solution” to the ongoing situation around his future.
Salah has repeatedly been linked with Saudi Arabia since last summer, when Liverpool rejected a major offer for the winger. His performances have continued to make him central to Jürgen Klopp’s plans, but the question of what happens next has not gone away.
For now, Liverpool remain focused on the season ahead, while Salah’s next steps continue to attract attention as negotiations over a new deal have yet to be confirmed.
