Manchester United fan Aaron has reached a 500-day milestone in his “The United Strand” challenge, after being forced to stick with his growing hair following Sunday’s 1-1 draw with West Ham.
The supporter started the challenge with a simple promise: he would not get a haircut until United kept a clean sheet. As the run has dragged on, it has turned into a long-running talking point online, with Aaron documenting the ever-longer look as the days tick by.
United went into the West Ham game with Aaron still waiting for the result that would finally allow him to book a trim. But despite taking the lead in the second half, Erik ten Hag’s side could not see the match out, conceding late on and settling for a 1-1 draw.
That meant no clean sheet again, and no haircut.
In an update shared after the final whistle, Aaron confirmed the challenge had now hit 500 days, with his hair still intact because United once again failed to shut out their opponents.
The unusual pledge has become increasingly hard to end, with each match turning into another test of United’s ability to defend for 90 minutes. And until that first clean sheet finally arrives, “The United Strand” will continue to grow.
