Manchester United are reportedly “leading the way” in the race to bring Scott McTominay back to the Premier League, with the midfielder said to be “dreaming” of a return from Napoli.

The Scotland international left Old Trafford last summer after coming through the club’s academy and going on to make more than 250 first-team appearances. He moved to Napoli in a deal worth around £25.7 million, following interest from a number of clubs.

McTominay has since settled into life in Italy and has been a regular feature for Napoli, but the latest report claims a switch back to England is already on his mind. It is stated that he “dreams” of returning to the Premier League, with United currently viewed as the club in the strongest position to secure his signature if the opportunity arises.

It has also been revealed that a return to Old Trafford is not the only scenario being considered, with the suggestion that other Premier League sides could also enter the picture if Napoli are willing to negotiate.

For now, McTominay remains a Napoli player, but the report indicates United are at the front of the queue should a deal become possible, keeping the door open for a reunion with a player who spent his entire professional rise in Manchester before heading abroad.
