Olympique Marseille has pulled a new item of club merchandise from sale after supporters spotted a mistake involving a map of Morocco.
The product, which had been offered through the club’s official channels, featured a design that included a map of the country. Fans quickly reacted on social media, saying the map shown on the item was incorrect and did not reflect Morocco’s full territorial outline.
After the criticism grew, the French top club removed the shirt from its webshop and stopped the sale. The decision was noticed shortly after the online debate started, with supporters sharing screenshots of the item before it disappeared.
The issue is sensitive because the correct depiction of Morocco’s map is widely seen as an important national matter for many Moroccans and people of Moroccan origin. The discussion around the shirt spread beyond Marseille’s fanbase and drew wider attention.
By taking the product out of circulation, Marseille effectively confirmed the mistake and acted to limit further backlash. The shirt is no longer available to buy through the club’s official store.
