Doubts over possible match-fixing have led a prominent businessman to back away from paying a bonus he had promised to the national team players during their participation in the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
The businessman had pledged the grant as support for the squad while they were competing at the tournament, but the controversy surrounding the results has now pushed him to reconsider and suspend the payment.
The decision comes as questions continue to circulate about the integrity of certain outcomes, with the match-fixing suspicion casting a shadow over the campaign and triggering reactions beyond the pitch.
For the players, the withdrawal means the promised reward will not be delivered, at least for now, after it had been presented as a morale boost during the “Morocco AFCON” appearance.
