Kylian Mbappe was on target again as Real Madrid kept pace in the title race with a hard-fought win over Villarreal.

Madrid started on the front foot but knew they were in for a difficult night against a Villarreal side that defended well and looked to break quickly. The visitors had to stay patient, moving the ball from side to side and trying to find space through a packed back line.

When the opening arrived, Mbappe took it. The France star finished with the calm and accuracy that have become hallmarks of his first season in Spain, adding another goal to his growing tally and giving Carlo Ancelotti’s side the lead they needed.

Villarreal responded with more intensity and asked questions of Madrid’s defence, forcing the away side to work without the ball and manage dangerous moments. Real had chances to extend the advantage but could not fully pull clear, leaving the contest alive for long periods.

Still, Madrid showed the control and maturity expected of a team chasing honours. Mbappe continued to carry the main threat in the final third, while Los Blancos relied on their structure and game management to see out the result.

The victory ensures Real Madrid remain firmly in the title hunt, with Mbappe once again providing the decisive edge when it mattered most.
