Michael Carrick insisted his Premier League Manager of the Month award was a collective achievement after making a dream start to life as Manchester United’s interim boss.
The former United midfielder took charge of the team following Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s departure and oversaw an unbeaten run across three matches. United drew 1-1 away at Chelsea in the Premier League before beating Villarreal 2-0 in the Champions League, a result that sealed qualification for the last 16. Carrick then signed off with a 3-2 Premier League win over Arsenal at Old Trafford.
Those results earned Carrick the Premier League’s managerial honour, but he was quick to share the credit. “It’s not just about me,” Carrick said. “It’s about the staff and the players and the club. It’s obviously nice to get that, but it’s not something you do on your own.”
Carrick also stressed that the focus remained on the group rather than individual recognition. “We’re in this together,” he added, pointing to the work done behind the scenes to keep standards high during a challenging period.
Carrick has since stepped aside after Ralf Rangnick was appointed as United’s interim manager, bringing Carrick’s spell in charge to an end after three games without defeat.
