Former Egyptian international Ahmed “Mido” sparked a wave of anger after commenting on the crowd trouble involving Al Ahly supporters during their match against Morocco’s AS FAR, choosing to defend the fans and describing the atmosphere in Rabat as “terrorist”.

Mido’s remarks were widely shared on social media, with many fans and observers saying he crossed the line and tried to justify unacceptable scenes in the stands instead of condemning them.

In his comments, Mido blamed what happened on the match environment and the tension around the game, insisting that Al Ahly supporters were reacting to what they faced inside the stadium. He went as far as calling the Rabat atmosphere “terrorist”, a description that drew strong criticism from Moroccan fans in particular.

The statements quickly turned into a major talking point, as many accused Mido of inflaming the situation rather than calming it, especially after a match that was already marked by heated emotions on and off the pitch.

Supporters of AS FAR and other Moroccan football followers rejected the description completely, stressing that stadiums should never be portrayed in that way, and that any crowd disorder must be addressed without excuses.

Mido, who has often been outspoken on football issues, has not backed down from his position, but the backlash continues as calls grow for more responsible public commentary when incidents like these occur.
