Jose Mourinho has admitted that a “wounded” Real Madrid will be “dangerous” in the Champions League, but the Benfica boss insists he is “used to” facing the biggest challenges on the European stage.
Mourinho, who previously coached Madrid, was asked about the threat posed by the Spanish giants and the mentality they can show after setbacks. He said: “A wounded king is always dangerous.”
However, the Portuguese coach made it clear he is not intimidated by the task facing Benfica, stressing that high-pressure European nights are nothing new to him.
“I’ve been doing it all my life,” Mourinho said, underlining that big Champions League tests are part of the job at this level and something he has dealt with throughout his career.
The Benfica manager’s comments come as attention builds around the upcoming Champions League challenge against Real Madrid, with Mourinho acknowledging the danger of a top side responding strongly when questioned, but also pointing to his own experience of navigating tests of this size.
